The Boring Blog Post

At last, worn out with sorrow and fatigue, she fell asleep and dreamt that she was wandering along a flowery meadow, when she came to a hut where she found an old witch, who promised to restore her husband to her.*

I am bored.
I wiped all the music away. It's quite quiet here. Any suggestions?

Did you draw the picture? It's beautiful.

Strange you should mention music; Patroclus writes about favourite tracks, as do a couple of other blogs I read, and tomorrow (yes, I've written it already because I'm going to be very busy tomorrow) I shall be writing about CDs I've bought recently. I wouldn't hold your breath. Two of them are from Sweden though.

Thank you Dave. I did draw it [at the same time while I was sitting here on the computer, trying to find something new to listen to].

I have to read the blogs later.
I think I might have a faintest idea who the Swedes are...

How can you draw and surf at the same time??

Taiga the Fox said...

Very easlily, anonymous. I use my left hand as a mousehand and draw/Write/do something else with the other.

Wow! Not only do you take a mean photograph and tell a good story (Superlon) but you can also turn your hand to a spot of illustration (while also suring the net!) I am VERY impressed. Do you have anymore creative talents we don't know about?!!

Taiga the Fox said...

Thanks, you are all too kind :)
Erm, I am just drawing awful scribbles all the time everywhere.

Taiga the Fox said...

Oh, and I just realised this isn't about music after all.

I'm still leaving my Favourite music on the bored-mode. Just four of us bored people in the whole blogosphere. Wow.

If you still got some great musical suggestions, go on, I'm all ears.

Ditto what Mimi Buzzard said above. Are you ambidextrous as well?

Whatever I draw always looks sinister for some reason. I tried to draw little baby chicks once, the idea being that I surely couldn't make something that cute look sinister. But, yikes, those were evil looking little bits of yellow fluff. Oh well.

I'll see if I can come up with any musical suggestions later, but you could do worse than visit Motel de Moka (the link's on Not 4'33"). There's loads of pretty diverse tracks on there.

Taiga the Fox said...

Thanks, this kindness is just too much.

I think I'm not ambidextrous, but I can use my left hand quite well. I have always used my left hand as a mousehand, because it gives me the ability to do something else simultaneously.

Oh, I think I'd love to see your sinister chicks.
[That could be a fine movie idea for John Waters. Sinister baby chicks. Hmm.]

Thanks, I'll take a visit to Motel de Moka. (Moka means a mistake in Finnish btw.)

Could you compose an opera for Superlon, or a musical? I would be an avid listener, even if the words were in a language I couldn't understand.

Taiga the Fox said...

Hello Sopwith-camel, nice to have a new visitor :)

Unfortunately you found my limits now. I'd love to see a Superlon musical or Opera Superlonica too, but I'll definitely leave composing for someone else.

OPC, thanks, the link was great.

Still sulking (not for anyone here),
not bored,
mildly meditating.

Sounds intriguing.

Anyhow, I was going to get back to you with another link or two.

The South by Southwest Festival site has loads of tracks to download. You can click on the various different categories of music to bring up a list of bands. The ones with a cassette next to them have a song to download.

I'm currently trying to resist spending yet more money on glitchy folktronica and other stuff from the Leaf record label. Quite a few free downloads (and videos) there, but I seem to remember some or all of them not being at full sound quality.

Lots of different stuff on the Salon's Audiofile page. A little bit of advertising to put up with, though.

If you find a track you like, Singingfish or The Hype Machine are good for finding more tracks by the same band.

Good luck.

Don't look at my blog for inspiration. Apparently I'm boring. Actually I knew that already.

patroclus said...

Oo, I like Motel de Moka an' all. They have good music *and* it helps me with my Spanish! Also, once you get into one of those indie-music blogs, they tend to have links to all the others, and then you get lost all day, downloading more stuff than you're ever going to listen to. Isn't the internet great?

Taiga the Fox said...

OPC, you're so kind, thanks a lot :)
(The I'm bored-button in the Singingfish was a bonus)

I realised that I hadn't really enjoyed listening to music for a long time. Thank you Patroclus for these words in your blog: >>...that would mean that you never changed as a person...<<
I am changed and the music I was carrying with me wasn't.

This surely is going to be intresting.

Dave said...

Sometimes of course our changing takes us to places where we'd rather not be. Then it's good to be able to go back to old music, and re-live happy times.

Taiga the Fox said...

You're right, but just now I have a feeling that my happy times aren't in the past.
Erm, if they are, I have just one thing to say and it is not printable.

Hurrah! I know exactly what you mean Taiga; I didn't listen to any new music for years, and then I met someone who was quite enthusiastic (to put it mildly) about it, and who made me listen to lots of great stuff. That person's gone now, but left me with a whole lot of leads to follow up, and I've been discovering loads of great new music ever since.

And I'm pleased to hear you're changing too. I don't think people should stay the same. I know I change all the time. Who knows what we'll become next?

Wise words, Patroclus, words that are wise.
[I just had my Sunday GW. Trying to recover from the eyeliner.]

patroclus said...

Ooo, the eyeliner...

How are you seeing GW in Finland?

Taiga the Fox said...

I'll quote you: Isn't the internet great?

Taiga the Fox said...

Intepreter Pavlov, I'm pleased to hear that. It might be the result of my subconsious, though.

(Maybe they had created Superlon if they'd had a chance to chat together :)

Taiga the Fox said...

Opc, a small notice for you: I'm listening. It's going to take some time, but I've already found something really nice...

Occasional Poster of Comments said...

Looking forward to hearing about what you've found :)

I got a bit tired of music a few years ago. What I didn't realise at the time was that there's this whole magical world of people doing their own thing, but you'd never find most of it on the shelves of HMV/Virgin Megastore/etc. Fortunately there's a really interesting music scene in Cambridge at the moment, which I was lucky enough to just kind of stumble upon, so I can just go to all these amazing little intimate gigs in the back rooms of pubs and the basement of a cafe and then follow the connections on the internet to all sorts of other bands.

To quote you quoting Patroclus: isn't the internet great?

patroclus said...

Isn't it just?

Anyway Taiga, I was just dropping in to add to your collection of music links - I'd forgotten all about Pitchfork's free mp3 download page which always has good stuff. Here it is, including free mp3 of a song by my current favourites Track a Tiger.

Tigers/Taigas would appear to be the order of the day.

Taiga the Fox said...

Thanks Patroclus! This Taiga surely has tracks now :)

I remember those days when I was free to go to the gigs when ever I wanted. [Well, that sounds pathetic.]
Then I got kids and I really banged my head against the brick wall, when I noticed I couldn't do anything spontaneous anymore. In fact I didn't much care, but now I do again.

I haven't much listened to mainstream ever, so I suppose I'll find lots of interesting stuff thanks to both of you.
