You're right, that black and white pasty looks like it's already been taken down the mine... or carved out of it.
Er, anyway, these days you can get many different flavours of pasty, but apparently only the Cornish ones are crimped on the edge.

er... 'Will ee'ave a' seems to be something mumbled in Cornish, which I found from the 'crimped edge' link....
