Year 2029 - I'll be a mummy

The older fox cub is starting the school in August. Last week we visited the school and I looked at a girl looking at him standing in the line looking at the view from the window. He looked so small and I wished his teacher would understand him being a speedy neanderthal who loves books. The school looked cosy, ordinary and quite good. At least it was chosen to be the other one where all the foreign teachers come if they want to know why.

Later we sat on the bus on our way to the daycare.
J: Mom. We aren't going to have paleontology at the first grade. I asked.
T Fox: Yes, I know.
J: What are we doing then?
T Fox: Well, first they'll teach you how to read...
J: But I know how to read already.
T Fox: Then you'll read and read and read a bit more...
J: For how long?
T Fox: Well, first you'll stay there for 6 years, then on the higher level for 3 years and after that another 3 years...
J: ... and then I'll go to the University for ten years and I'm going to be a professor of archeology. And you'll be dead.
T Fox: Err..
J: Can I use your bones?

----

Later we built these for the forest elves.

Awww. It's a crime that they don't teach paleontology in the first grade.

How is the oldest fox club by the way? Did you teach him to read, did he learn himself, or at playschool? (So many questions from the teacher!) Over here they start school at 4/5. Hope he enjoys it and settles in quickly.

The elves are marvellous, by the way.

Reminds me of a conversation I had some years ago with my older daughter:

Daughter: Can we have a dog?
Me: No, your dad is allergic to dogs
Daughter: Well, when he's very old...
Me: When he's very old...what?
Daughter: He'll be dead and THEN I'll get a dog!

B. - I can't understand where did he get those traits from...

Marsha - Oh dear :)

Annie - I didn't teach him how to read, nor did the pre-school. Well, I teached him the alphabets and erm... have bought them about 400 books and read lots and lots and lots to them. One day, just after his 5th birthday he learnt how to read by himeself and now he is reading really massive archaeology/scout/how-to-be-a-detective - books....

In Finland the kids start pre-school at 6 and school at 7 and I think it's quite good age to do that.

LOL. "Can I use your bones?" made me think of Warren Zevon

After 10 long years they let him out of the home,
(excitable boy, they all said),
And he dug up her grave and made a kite with her bones...

:) Oh no, he's got the Warren Zevon haircut as well...

I hope I'm not a mummy then! I want to be alive and kickin'. :)

I think I wanted to be an archeologist at his age, too. Except I used to dig up the vegetable garden looking for bones. I'm beginning to suspect now that this may have been unremunerated child labour.

Oh, and the elf creations reminded me of a local artist type person I happened to see doing a signing at the Falmouth Bookseller, Andrew Lanyon. He had some little models kind of like that with him. I've kept wishing I'd bought his book, ever since.

Hmm, I wonder if I can get to his exhibition somehow...
