Modified Social Benches

We have now 10 of these surrounding Kiasma.
Made by wonderful Jeppe Hein.
More photos will follow sooner or later, when the exhibition opening is over.

10 unsittable benches surrounding Kiasma? Brilliant :)

Hmm, there are going to be some confused drunks around, though - you can imagine them trying to settle down for the night, sliding off, and wondering whether they're just very drunk or the bench really does look like that :)

do people sit under it?

I can't help feeling there are strong conceptual links between this seat and the Lego Escher (which I can't make work - can you?) you posted some days ago.

Could Escher be the subject of the equestrian statue? And could he be wearing a Vappu student's cap, if the Helsinki pigeons hadn't discoloured it?

It's all relative, isn't it?

I can only assume your May silence (or quietness) is because you have spent the whole month busily looking forward to your birthday. In case I can't say it tomorrow, allow me to say one day in advance, "Hyvää Syntymäpäivää!"

i remember seeing these in a sculpture class slideshow a year or so ago, they have other ways of constructing the strange benches, yes?
i see you are a curator, that is what my dream job is too. i like to discover things, i want to discover art!!! and be paid well for my admiration and loving critiques.
do you have any suggestions for me, as this will be my pursuit for quite some time? i plan on graduating from my somewhat prestigious university with a BA in art history, and then taking a year off in London to work with a russian art dealer connected with my family, before returning to the states and my college to get a masters in curatorial studies.
i do not know whether my life will be such that i would wish to travel very far all of my time, but i do enjoy the idea of seeing new places, and new things. i am worried that america is best for my intrigue, as i do not enjoy the country so much, but i must think it land of opportunity with the help of my family.
regardless, i very much enjoy your blog,
look forward to more posts.

Erm, sorry about my silence...
I have been partying, working, partying, working etc. etc. Have had no time to sit on the benches at all or not even take any more photos [even if I've been spending bit more time in Flickr lately]...

Thank you, BiB :)

Oh, hello and welcome Sasha the Turtle :) Great if you like the blog. Hmm... I'm not sure if I can give you any advice... it is a wonderful job, but in my case (at least) doesn't mean well paid though. Maybe if I was independent and not working in a museum and maybe if I was living in USA, not in Finland. Anyway, I think it's still great. Go for it :)
